AZ Exotic Bird Rescue

Adoption Process

Our #1 goal is to find lifelong homes for our birds. Before any adoption is finalized, we conduct thorough reviews of potential owners to ensure they’re capable of providing the animal with the best possible quality of life

Step 1: Picking Your Bird

Owning a bird is a big responsibility and your decision on which type of bird must be based on a variety of factors. If you’re new to birds, don’t have a lot of room, or have young children, you may want to look at adopting something smaller and easier to care for, such as Parakeets, Lovebirds, Cockatiels, or Conures. If you’re experienced with birds and have an ample amount of space, then you may want to look at rescuing our Macaws, Amazon Parrots, or African Grays.

Step 2: Adoption Application

In order to adopt a bird, you must first complete our Adoption Application. This helps us evaluate whether prospective owners are qualified and capable of providing the animal with a happy and healthy life. To give yourself the best opportunity at acceptance, you should spend time researching how to care for birds, and practices that will help them live a happy life. Be sure to carefully consider your responses and provide detailed answers.

Step 3: Adoption Interview & Screening

Provided your application is approved, all individuals living in an applicant’s home will have an in-person interview at the Rescue. Our goal in this interview is to engage in an open and honest discussion about the responibilites of owning a bird, the potential challenges you may face, and to gauge your commitment to the supporting the bird you wish to adopt.
